Downtown Chimes Ring Once Again

The Livingston County courthouse chimes are once again ringing, thanks to the generosity of two local donors and a few others who donated their time and talents to enhance downtown.
According to Crystal Narr, Main Street Chillicothe director, Edward Milbank and Steve Franke donated $2,500 each to replace the chiming system which has not been operating for almost two years.
“It (the system) had been out of use because the cost associated with its replacement was so expensive,” Narr explained. Chillicotheans Jim and Mary Staton donated the courthouse’s original carillon about 25 years ago. Six years ago, the Statons replaced the speakers and amplifier, which had deteriorated due to age. Four years later, Jim said, the chiming system’s control unit followed suit and the chimes went silent.
That changed a week ago today (Friday) thanks to Milbank’s and Franke’s cash donation and the efforts of Staton, who helped Main Street Chillicothe find a replacement system. Narr said local electrician Larry Heisey also gave his time in helping install the new system and get it up and running. |
