December 5, 2007 - Eva Danner, Bill Hoyt's successor as Livingston County Presiding Commissioner, was honored yesterday (Tuesday) with the annual award presented in Hoyt's honor.
Danner received the award during the annual RSVP Christmas Recognition banquet held at Grand River Inn.
The Bill Hoyt Distinguished Service Award was established in 1994 to honor then Presiding
Commissioner Bill Hoyt who gave nearly 35 years of his life serving the public as a commissioner and then presiding commissioner.
“One can certainly say she (Danner) goes above and beyond the call of duty,” one nominator said. “She always has time for anything you need, be it night or day. She is on various committees and organizations but still has time for her family and friends whatever the need may be.”
Another nominator said that Danner has worked unselfishly for the past 30-plus years-through her church, volunteer activities, various organizations and in her office as presiding commissioner. “She has given tirelessly of her time and talents to make Livingston County and the City of Chillicothe a better place to live.”
This nominator described Danner as an exemplary citizen with honesty and integrity. “She lives her life serving others and our community is a better place because of that.”
Yet another nominator said that Danner is always a true friend. “She always has time to visit,” the nominator said. “If you call her at home, the office or see her at church, Eva is there to listen.”
As Livingston County presiding commissioner, Danner serves as budget officer, oversees building and grounds maintenance, and is supervisor of the road and bridge department and planning and zoning. Danner is also responsible for developing policies in regard to personnel, floodplain management and emergency
management. She also serves as the Local Emergency Planning Commission chairperson.
Danner is involved in several professional organizations including Green Hills Regional Planning Commission, Green Hills Rural Development, Green Hills Community Action Agency, Livingston County Community Development and many more. She is currently the second vice president of the Missouri Association of Counties and will assume presidency of MAC in 2010.
Danner's involvement extends into the community as well where she serves as a Chamber of Commerce member, Third Ward CDBG Housing Rehabilitation Committee member, Hedrick Medical Center Advisory board member, RSVP volunteer and is a past board member of Habitat for Humanity.
She as served on the Leadership Northwest Missouri Alumni and Advisory Board, is a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Hedrick Medical Center Auxiliary, Questers Antique Collectors' Club, Chapter JW PEO and Church Women United.
Honors she has received include serving as Grand Marshal for the 2004 Holiday Parade, “Hometown Hero” award in 2004, 2003 Chamber Person of the Year, 2001 Livingston County Democratic Club Jerry Litton Award and 1993 Missouri Association of Realtors Lifetime Million Dollar Club Award.
Upon receiving the 2007 Bill Hoyt Distinguished Service Award yesterday, Danner said said that she was very touched and honored to receive the award. “This is just awesome. I love this community and I love every minute that I get to serve it.”
Charlene Coleman, 1996 Bill Hoyt Award recipient and vice-president of the committee, presented the award to Danner. Other officers of the Bill Hoyt Distinguished Service Award committee are Chuck Haney, president; Barbara Lame, secretary; Cindy Ireland, co-treasurer; and Warren Hoyt, co-treasurer. Committee members are Winston Buckner, John Neal and County Commissioner Kenneth Warren.
