County Clerk Offers Election Day Advice

Friday, October 3, 2008, C-T

Confusion, long lines and waiting are unchanging factors during any election process and with the upcoming election on Nov. 4, Livingston County Clerk, Kelly Christopher offers some insight into making the process progress a little smoother.

Christopher recommends that all voters access their personal voter information by going to the county clerk’s website at www.livingstoncountymo.com/clerk/countyclerk.htm. Select voter information and scroll down to see polling place lookup, with mapping capabilities, which will also give information on where to vote, if a voter is registered properly, current address and a sample ballot.

Voters may also update an address up until election day. Christopher suggests however, to update prior to election day to reduce time waiting in the election lines. “If any voter goes back to their old address and votes on election day, they will be committing a misdemeanor election fraud,” Christopher stated. “When they sign the register they are swearing that is where they live. That’s how important it is for voters to get their address right.”

Christopher also recommends that all voters obtain a sample ballot prior to the election day. There are several amendments and propositions on the Livingston County ballot that will take a while to read. By obtaining a sample ballot, voters can take their time to look over the amendments and propositions in order to make a better informed decision and to cut time in the booth on election day.

In Livingston County an optical scan voting machine is used and in order to vote you just connect an arrow. Having a sample ballot will give good arrow-connecting practice.
