October 18, 2007 - Next month, Livingston County residents will be receiving their personal property and real estate statements, and collector's officials report that all taxes should be paid in the Treasurer Ex Officio Collector's office in the Livingston County Courthouse.

Effective with the 2007 tax year, Livingston County will no longer be using township collectors to collect current taxes. This change is due to a state law which eliminates the position of township collectors and consolidates the process to the Livingston County collector. According to Livingston County Treasurer Ex Officio Collector Deanna Kepner, “all current and delinquent county taxes will be collected in the collector's office at the Livingston County Courthouse.” The office is located on the first floor in the southeast corner of the courthouse.

Employees in the collector's office have been busy preparing the statements for Livingston County residents. Kepner reports that there are approximately 16,355 statements to be mailed out-6,113 of those being personal property and 10,242 are real estate. In total, the 2007 statements will total $7,966,138.

Tax statements will be mailed the first week of November. “If a tax payer has not received their statements by Nov. 30, they should call our office,” Kepner stressed. Both personal property and real estate statements will be sent in the same envelopes whenever possible. When residents mail their payments, they should return the statement also. “Mailed payments must be postmarked no later than the last day of the month to avoid additional late charges,” Kepner explained. A return envelop will be enclosed with statements for east return of payment.
